Trusted Willard Septic Tank Company
How fast your septic tank fills up can vary from season to season and year to year. It’s the reason many experts advise against a set pumping schedule, such as every five years. A better approach is to schedule regular inspections at least every three years. As your system ages, you may need to schedule inspections more frequently.
During an inspection, we’ll review every aspect of your septic system. Our Willard plumbers can identify and correct normal wear and tear. If we identify more serious issues, we can recommend preventative repairs. Those will save you money and inconvenience over time. As for pumping, we’ll generally recommend doing it when the volume is at least 35% but not as high as 50%.
As the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) puts it, septic system maintenance isn’t complex, and it doesn’t have to be expensive. Proper care according to the EPA begins with regular inspections. Perform maintenance on the tank, pump, septic plumbing, and leach field as needed. The EPA also recommends limiting the amount of waste you put into the system. Consider that over 90% of the average household’s waste is water.
You should fix plumbing issues as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary water usage. When upgrading fixtures, choose low-flow products. High-efficiency toilets, for instance, can lower your annual water usage by as much as 50%. Make sure you handle grease appropriately. Also, if your system doesn’t have one, consider upgrading it with a grease trap.
