Spring Plumbing Maintenance To-Do’s!

Not only is it time for Spring cleaning, it’s also a good time to look at your plumbing system. Here are some things to look for:

  • Pipes
Start with looking at your faucets and see if you have any leaks. If you see any water coming out around the connections when your faucets are shut off, it’s time to install new fixtures or repair where it is leaking. This will help prevent more damage and even improve your water bill!
  • Water Heater
Find out how old your water heater is; if it’s around 15 years or older, start planning to buy a new one soon. Even if it’s a younger water heater, make sure the water heater is set no higher than 120 degrees.
  • Appliances
Look at ALL your appliances. Check your water supply hoses for leaks or bulging. If you find hoses that are 10 years or older, replace them.
  • Sump Pump
Pour a bucket or water into the pit where the sump pump is. The sump pump should start working immediately, drain the water, then deactivate. If it does not work that way, this needs to be fixed right away.
